Lana’i Developers (Lana’i City, HI) and Outlook Construction (Hawley, PA) Recognized for Planning and Building Entire Developments Fueled by Propane

Orlando, FL (February 8, 2007) — The Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) and members of the propane industry announced today the winners of the fifth annual PROPANE Exceptional Energy ® Homebuilder Awards at the International Builders’ Show in Orlando, FL. The PROPANE Exceptional Energy® Homebuilder Awards are given annually to recognize innovative homebuilders who use propane as the primary energy source to fuel projects they design and build.

The awards recognize homebuilders in two categories: builders of homes valued at more than $250,000 and builders of homes valued at less than $250,000. Lana’i Developers, LLC, of Lana’i City, HI is this year’s winner in the $250,000 or more category. Outlook Construction of Hawley, PA is this year’s winner in the $250,000 or under category, for its Energy Star Idea Home.

Both award winners turned to propane to provide their customers with the benefits of gas. Lana’i Developers, LLC, was selected for its utilization of propane to fuel luxury homes. Lana’i Developers’ luxury project, The Palms at Manele, consists of 38 ocean view residential condominiums. The development features a centralized underground propane tank that fuels propane appliances from outdoor spas to water heaters. Propane has provided this residential community the benefits of a luxurious estate but is designed to be a more efficient and economical approach to energy.

StoneField Estates & Commons developed by Outlook Construction was selected for its leadership in the Energy Star program. These 116 homes use propane to fuel appliances such as cooking ranges, dryers, and water heaters. The combination of these appliances allows homeowners to experience significant energy savings and have the flexibility of installing additional appliances to enhance their home’s beauty.

"These two award winners understand the benefits of using propane – this versatile energy source provides more reliability in an efficient and environmentally friendly way,” said Roy Willis, president of PERC. “Because these builders incorporated propane appliances into their communities, they have increased the public’s interest as well as the value of homes in remote locations.”
